Description: View of Kawhia, looking over towards the trees where the farmhouse built by George Charlton formerly stood. At far left is a side view of the Kawhia Congregational Church. Also on left, is the St Elmo boarding house, on a hilltop, silhouetted by distant hills, with verandah facing the camera. To the left of St Elmo, side on, is Rosamond House. The wide grassed area, with horses grazing later became Pouewe Street. Photograph taken by Jonathan Limited (Firm) between 1908-1915. Description: Kawhia, Waikato region, photographed by Jonathan & Co, between 1908-1919. St Elmo boarding house in foreground. Large two-storey building on Jerome Street (later known as Jervois Street) is Hotel Moana built 1904. Also shows the post office (seaward side of the Hotel); Jonathan's Ltd (two along from the seaward side of the post office); the Courthouse built 1908 (to right of the two Norfolk pines); site of Motu Ngaio Pa (on hill above town, with a few houses).
