Description: Photographs of Masterton including: Bannister's farm on the north bank of the Waipoua River at Akura with Charles Bannister standing on the bank; the militia of 1866, presenting arms, led by Captain Walter Perry (all names given in the caption); the Coles' house on Bridge Street (now Queen Street) and a studio portrait of what may be the Coles family; views of Queen Street; a crowd in the street for the opening of the new Post Office with the Public Institute behind it; a sale of sheep at the saleyards; a procession by friendly societies past the Prince of Wales stables; James Wrigley and his family outside his bootmaking business; James Wrigley and his wife and son John; a cart travelling over the Te Ore Ore bridge; the Anglican church; the first Post Office next to Iorn's Bannister store ca 1856; panoramic views of the town; the Waipoua River near the site of the old Kaikokirikiri Pa; Masterton school picnic at Woodroofe's farm; a painting of Worksop Farm owned by the Dixons by Charles Barraud; a band and procession on Queen Street passing Westlake's saddlery and Winzenberg's photography shop; Masterton's first band outside the Royal Hotel with E Braggins, the licencee and conductor (other names given on the reverse of the print); a ballast train coming from the ballast pit near the railway train with men standing on the carts; the Wrigley family in a field of cattle at their farm; a baby show; an 1854 land receipt for a section purchased by Iorns; a group of eighteen blacksmiths holding their implements; Liberal Party celebrations at Solway Show Grounds after the 1905 election with Seddon, Ward and others (named on the reverse of the print); William Hodgson Donald; Sergeant Price of the Masterton police; Donald Solway Donald; Mr and Mrs Charles Dixon; W W McCardle; and a tinsmith, one of the early residents. Replacement negatives for two images at 1/2-132742 and 151351. 1/1-000763 to 1/1-000778 may also relate to this collection.

Description: Family photographs of the Barnes family featuring the homestead Terewhiti and the following family members: Henry, Walter Ernest (Ernie - at various ages), Mary, Julia (Ernie's wife), Ernie's son Thomas, Lorraine, and Leslie. Also included are scenic views; scenes of mustering and shearing on the farm; Ernie and others in First World War uniforms; a burned down house; soldiers at Trentham camp eating a meal outside their tent (as a postcard signed by George McDermott to his brother and sister Alice and Bill); Lorraine Barnes taking part in a recording of the radio show The Quiz Kids as a member of the Hutt Valley team (The Quiz Kids was introduced by Selwyn Toogood in the 1950s); results of a national election being monitored on a wall chart ca 1930s; Ernie Barnes as captain of the Wellington Telephone Exchange Cricket Club; and two of officers and soldiers from the Second World War. Description: Recent prints from old photographs of Wellington, originallty taken between about 1841 and 1929. Includes one photograph of a painting of Wellington waterfront from 1841, by Charles Heaphy. Only a few images identify the photographers, the Burton Brothers, Tyree Brothers and James Bragge. The Bragge photograph (looking down to the Harbour from Hill Street taken in the 1880s) was identified from his horse-drawn carriage with his name and occupation emblazoned on the side. Description: Three photographic prints of images taken in Wellington by photographer James Bragge between circa 1860 and circa 1902. A wide view overlooking Thorndon, Wellington City, taken from The Terrace circa 1870. It shows the city buildings, including St Mary's Cathedral, Government House, Old St Pauls's Church, domestic houses, and early reclaimation work on the harbour's edge. On extreme lower right of frame, two women walking on a path are visible. A view taken of four men posing on Swinburne's Wharf, Wellington. Visible in the background are wooden buildings on the shoreline and some moored sailing vessels at the wharves. Print is captioned "Swinbourne Wharf Willis St". A view of colonial wooden buildings lining Lambton Quay, with a horse and cart on the Quay beside the shoreline. In the foreground is a pile of planks; and to left of frame is a large wooden building. Print is captioned "Lambton Quay showing back of the Central Club". Also includes a card matt with an embossed photographers stamp pasted on to it reading "James Bragge Portrait & Landscape Photographer Wellington N Z". Record title supplied by Library Quantity: 3 b&w original photographic print(s). 1 item(s) of photographic ephemera card matt. Physical Description: Black and white albumen prints, mounted on card which has been trimmed, two prints are captioned by hand in ink; and a card matt Provenance: Private purchase, 2015. No further provenance information known. Processing information: The prints came to the Library with card mounts which were a later addition to the prints. One card mount was retained as it has the photographer's stamp attached. The other mounts were discarded as they were not of an archival housing standard.
