Description: A small thatched cottage with a tall conical roof, propped up with branches on three visible sides. A man standing to the left and a barrel lying on the ground near the building, flax bushes in the foreground and the harbour and Western Hutt hills in the background. Probably the first Petone court house building. Compare the building illustrated on p. 12 of Louis Ward's 'Early Wellington'. A very similar building is shown with a caption indicating that this is possibly the court house of the The Settlement at Petone. A further almost identical view on sale at Leonard Joel, Melbourne, 18 April 2010 is titled First Court House, Petoni Beach ... 1846. Description: View through wind-shaped trees from the northwest side of Petone Flat, looking towards the eastern hills. On the right is the palisade of Te Puni's pa with the roof of one whare rising above the fence-line and a single high-roofed house on the plain further into the valley on the left. There is a lone male figure, carrying a long spear standing in the middle ground, between two trees. Description: Shows three huts with steep-pitched thatched roofs, rush walls and small windows. The central hut is enclosed by a small wooden fence. The one at right foreground has a high stone chimney. A man is repairing or reapplying flax or rushes to the walls. In extreme right foreground grows a flax bush. There are hills in the background. The furthest cottage may be the building used as the first courthouse; see note for image at A-190-014. Description: Shows a raupo or flax hut with wooden batten structure to hold the raupo in place. There is a small window in the near wall which appears to be supported by two props. The roof is thatched and there is a slab chimney at the right side. There are hills in the background. A later hand has sketched in pencil a suggestion of a woman feeding four chickens.
