Description: A clearing amongst tall native trees, with a the house of George Compton in the background, surrounded by a low fence, the whole viewed through a gap between the trunks of two large trees. There is a fallen tree trunk in the centre with a man seated on the trunk, his back to the viewer and staff in his hand. Note on verso: Compton's cottage on Daniel's Island, River Hutt in 1843.
