Description: The collection covers mining buildings; interior machinery including the use of scales and smelting; miners both at work and posed for the camera; panning for gold; mine railways and the carts used on them; general views of the area; and other houses and buildings in the area. Also included are the building of the power house for the Talisman Gold Mining Company in Karangahake, a gold mine battery possibly in Karangahake, and a coach pulled by five horses possibly in the Karangahake district. The dating is from the vehicles in some of the images and the geographical area is from information in the negative accession register. Photographer possibly H R Vine. New Zealand scenes are mostly taken by Daniel Mundy, and include many landscapes; a few taken in Christchurch City; several show the Raukapuka Station and Raukapuka Bush, near Geraldine; several taken in and around the Thames Goldfields, at Moanatiri Valley and Te Puhi Flat, with one view of the workings of `The Wild Missouri. A section of the album shows parts of England, including a number of Glastonbury Abbey and St Joseph's Chapel, Wells, Mitford and Mitford Castle, and Pang bourne [i.e. Pangbourne]. Description: A river in the foreground, with the battery on the opposite bank, with piles of earth, a man working with a barrow, a conveyor belt, the factory with a smoking chimney and the mine-manager's house in the background to the left, a poppet head to the right. Includes tunnels into low hills, far left and towards the right, the latter with a rail leading from it. Shows the Golden Pah Mine at Coromandel, with Hauraki Hill behind it. Catalogued between acquisition in 1977 and the arrival of fresh information in 2013 as the Union Mine at Waihi. However it was convincingly identified as Golden Pah Mine at Coromandel in July 2013, by a correspondent to the Library. Golden Pah Mine was registered in London in 1896. It was sited in what is now Coromandel town, with Hauraki Hill behind it to the north. The site occupied 23 acres. The mine manager was Edward Arthur Daldy. The two tunnels shown in this view are still (2013) in existence at road level, the manager's house remains the site of a different house, and the concrete footings for the poppet heads are present but hidden under vegetation.
