Description: Album of landscapes taken by various photographers including Wheeler & Sons and the Burton Brothers, circa 1870s and 1880s. All the views are of New Zealand except the last sequence (p 33-37) showing Rio de Janeiro. Of particular interest are views of a wool wagon drawn by oxen, crossing a ford; a series showing an unidentified curved viaduct under construction (p 28-32); and a number showing a farm run by J F L Jetter at Te Puke when the land was partially cleared, with cattle grazing in paddocks, and Mr Jetter standing by a horse in a paddock in front of his home. Many of the images show uncleared land, with a deep ravine filled with native bush and tree ferns, and a stream running through (p 24-27). Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Description: Family photographs of the Barnes family featuring the homestead Terewhiti and the following family members: Henry, Walter Ernest (Ernie - at various ages), Mary, Julia (Ernie's wife), Ernie's son Thomas, Lorraine, and Leslie. Also included are scenic views; scenes of mustering and shearing on the farm; Ernie and others in First World War uniforms; a burned down house; soldiers at Trentham camp eating a meal outside their tent (as a postcard signed by George McDermott to his brother and sister Alice and Bill); Lorraine Barnes taking part in a recording of the radio show The Quiz Kids as a member of the Hutt Valley team (The Quiz Kids was introduced by Selwyn Toogood in the 1950s); results of a national election being monitored on a wall chart ca 1930s; Ernie Barnes as captain of the Wellington Telephone Exchange Cricket Club; and two of officers and soldiers from the Second World War. Description: Views mostly in and around New Plymouth but including clergymen gathered for Archdeacon Govett's jubilee in 1898, crowds in Pukekura Park for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubliee in 1897 and a Floral Fete in 1896, a homestead called Tokotahi near the Tiraumea River in Pahiatua County, the old mountain house on Mount Taranaki, and an area called Grant's Braes (now Waverley) in Dunedin. Include several of Paihia; the church with ruins of Archdeacon Williams' house; church belfry (standing alone in a field in front of the church); monument to Archdeacon Williams, Paihia Cemetery, `raised solely by Maori subscription'; and monument to the Treaty of Waitangi. Views of Kerikeri include the oldest wooden house, and the oldest stone house in New Zealand; and Kerikeri Falls (Rainbow Falls). At Waimate views show ruins of the first mill in New Zealand, remains of a factory near the old mill; puriri trees; and Waimate Church.
