Godber album 8

Description: Album of photographs taken by Albert Percy Godber between 1912 and 1914. Images include Godber's family, a few of identified people (names listed in the name file), and many with no identification. One image of a group of fitters and turners apprentices at the Petone Railway Workshops, taken in 1913, has all the apprentices named (listed in the full record for Godber negative, APG-0457-1/2) Views of the old Central Fire Station at Petone, and the new Petone Fire Brigade Station; the aftermath of a huge fire at Cooks' Cooperage (on January 14, 1914); and a locomotive which had rolled. Local Petone scenes include the Petone Council Chambers and town clock, and a number of houses in the area, including the home of Godber's friend Tom Mather; Korokoro bush, and the Korokoro Reservoir. Away from the Wellington area, Godber photographed a number of houses in Clonbern Road area; the Makatote Viaduct and the Manganui-o-te-Ao Viaduct. Renouf, Philip, fl 1968-2014: Photographic slides of Wahine disaster

Description: Comprises photographic colour slides relating to the sinking and salvage work on the Interislander ferry TEV 'Wahine'. Taken by Phil Renouf after 10 April 1968, and before the completion of salvage work in September 1973. The Union Steam Ship Company passenger ferry 'Wahine' sailed from Lyttelton to Wellington on the night of 9 April 1968. In the early morning of 10 April, it struck Barrett's Reef in Wellington Harbour during a storm and sank with the loss of 51 lives. A second storm on 8 May 1969 broke the hull into three pieces. The ship was demolished on site by salvors. Salvage operations were completed in September 1973.
