Description: Papers include letters to Denmark, a history of the Scandinavian church in New Zealand 1865 - ca 1900 by Mads with a translation and history from 1928 by Ansgar, sermons and diaries of Ansgar Christensen, 1928-1957. Also includes Clem Koch's history of the Lutheran Church in New Zealand Source of title - Supplied Mads Christensen was sent to New Zealand by the Inner Mission Board of Denmark in 1886. He was ordained and inducted to the Mauriceville Parish in 1886; from 1893 he served in Palmerston North. From 1928 to 1958 his son, Ansgar, served in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Palmerston North. Description: Photographs relating to the dance band scene in New Zealand in the 1930s and 1940s, largely associated with Lauri Paddi (aka Laurence George Malvern Paddy] and various bands. Many of the images are signed by musicians in the bands, not all the signatures being legible. Names have been listed where possible. Musicians with signatures Ian H Pitcaithly, W O Pritchard, and Jeffrey Madden, are probably the same as musicians listed on a poster for the Auckland Peter Pan Orchestra (Nin Pitcaithly, Billy Pritchardt, and Johnny Madden). One series of photographs shows musicians performing with Lauri Paddi going on tour in the South Island, including two views taken from a car, following a train on the road/rail Rakaia Bridge. Description: Photographs taken by Albert Percy Godber between 1905 and 1907, covering a variety of topics. They include family photographs, both individual and group portraits, and Wellington houses (eg `Railway Whare', the house Godber and his family lived in, in Bay Street, Petone). One scene shows Godber's parents, Mary Ann and Charles Godber, with a large group of family members, including Albert Percy Godber, his wife Laura, and two children, Phyllis and William (p.21). On p. 13, Godber's wife Laura and two children are seen with an elderly couple, probably Laura's parents Charles Albert and Magdelina Clara Zinckgraf. Numbers of images show scenes associated with New Zealand Railways, including the Mataroa Railway Tunnel under construction, specific locomotives, signal stations, the railway station at Petone, and scenes at the Petone Railway Workshops. At the beginning of the album, several images show Godber and a team from the Petone Fire Brigade with medals they have won at fire-fighting practice competitions. A pocket at the front of the album holds two photographs, on of a new cutting on the road near Lowry Bay, and one of the `model of `D' class locomotive used in the Petone Peace Demonstration Procession' following the Boer War in 1902, signed `With A.P. Description: Photographs taken at the scene of the railway disaster at Tangiwai on Christmas Eve, 1953. Images of the train wreck and the rescue effort. Photographs taken by Morrie Peacock of 20th Centry Photography (N.Z.) Limited. The original negatives fronm which these prints were made are at MP-0059 On Christmas Eve, 1953, a surge of water, ice, volcanic ash and boulders from the crater lake of Mount Ruapehu carried away most of the Tangiwai railway bridge across the Whangaehu River.
