Description: Photographs taken on holiday trips in the South Island. Cities and towns include Picton, Blenheim, Nelson, Greymouth, Christchurch, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Tarras, and Queenstown. Many houses and public buildings have been recorded. There are views of the sounds, beaches, countryside, lakes, and people. One of the sequences records a tramp on the Heaphy Track in 1968. Physical Description: Dye coupler transparencies, 35mm Provenance: These slides are part of a collection purchased by a friend of the donor at an estate auction in Lower Hutt in 1998. All that the donor knew was that the photographer was a woman. He received the slides from his friend.

Description: The main subject areas include ships, birds (especially sea birds), trees, native forest, places in the form of pastoral landscapes, coastal views, towns and historical buildings. There are sequences of Maori and Pakeha doing crafts, mainly weaving and dying. One sequence of Maori weaving records the process from the cutting and preparation of the flax to the finished product. There are also family portraits and groups, and photographs of friends. A number of photographs were taken to build up a resource of natural textures and patterns such as driftwood, river boulders, and clouds. The subject range of the collection can be accessed through George Bull's card index. The original envelope sequence numbers relating to this can be followed in the negative registers. Description: Photographs of hydroelectric power plants on the Waikato River, at Ohakuri, Waipapa and Aratiatia. Other photographs show the permanent villages at Maraitai and Wairakei, and in particular the community halls built for those villages. The photographs were taken ca 1963 by a Ministry of Works staff photographer. Also included are photographs of Aratiatia power station taken by Rod Cook. Collection also includes aerial photographs of Auckland taken during World War II by an unknown photographer. Source of title - Title supplied by Library Some of these photographs were progress photographs to send to the Head Office Hydro Design in Wellington, but most were taken for a display of Government architectural design work. The Ministry of Works operational centre was at Mangakino, with later a construction group at Aratiatia. Rodney Cook was project architect at Mangakino and then Aratiatia from 1961 to 1964. Description: Comprises photographs, probably taken by John Porteous, relating to his educational activities (mostly in native schools) and family. The localities are in the Gisborne Region and include Tikitiki, Tuparoa, and Reporua. Specifically, one group of photographs record a rugby match between Tikitiki and Rangitukia schools, and two others show Reporua school children collecting driftwood from the beach and participating in an Arbour Day celebration in 1912. There are a general views of Reporua and Tuparoa and one of Reporua School. Other images are of people grouped in front of unidentified meeting houses. Description: A spiral bound sketchbook containing 16 black and white photocopies and two loose colour laser copies from Leonard Abbott's 1940 sketchbook, made during his voyages during the second World War. The sketches include ship portraits of the M.V. 'Waiwera', sketches of the Panama Canal, views of Auckland city buildings, Cheltenham Beach at Devonport, Auckland from Ponsonby park, The Bluff and other hills at Napier, hills at the Wellington Harbour heads, a view of Wellington Railway Station and Government buildings from the ship, and a view of Wellington and harbour from the Botanical Gardens. The loose colour laser copies are a ship portrait sketch by Abbott of the M.V. 'Waiwera' and the colour photographic postcard of the same ship at Auckland.
