Description: Scenes from the Northland campaign of the New Zealand wars, 1845-46, other Northland views, portrait of Hone Heke. Includes two items by unidentified artists, and a lithograph of a map by John Nops. Inscriptions: Title on spine: Bridge & Williams - Maori war sketches. Cyprian Bridge and John Williams collaborated in documenting events of the war in the far north. Quantity: 1 sketchbook(s). Physical Description: 2 lithographs, 4 drawings, 5 watercolour paintings, in album 344 x 380 mm, 1/2 brown calf, brown buckram. Provenance: Collection of Alexander Horsburgh Turnbull with an inscription in his hand inside the original front cover (loose at top of box A-079). Appears to be his 'New Zealand album containing 16 original sketches, 1845-6', purchased from W. Brown of Edinburgh, 19 July 1893 for £8 (letters of A H Turnbull). Transfers: A watercolour by Cuthbert Clarke showing an 1849 feast in the Bay of Islands removed from this album and located at B-030-007. An ink and wash drawing by John Williams, 'Stern of a canoe' now located at A-079-015 shows as an offset print on a page of the original binding - Watercolour on p. 5 (dimensions 200 x 280 mm) removed and transferred to box A-079-006.
