Description: Programme booklet for a dance recital contains photographs of King Albert in military uniform, and a group of (probably Belgian) children standing in fur coats. The programme lists tableaux and dances. Tableaux include "Belgium" (Mona Mackay), "The Allies" (with women representing England (Miss M Miller), France (Miss Woodham), Russia (Miss Lewis), Servia (Miss E Miller), Japan (Miss Hipkins), and Belgium (Miss Mona Mackay). The dance pupils are all listed with the items they performed. Other variety perfomers were Mr J W Ryan, Mr Alan McElwain, Mr F G Bourke. The programme contains advertisements for many Auckland businesses. There is also a cartoon "Bravo! Description: A journal kept by Ranfurly's chief aide-de-camp, Dudley Alexander. Most of the journal comprises his illustrated letters to his sister Alice. This give detailed descriptions of places, various events and travels, people met and observed, historical anecdotes and more as Alexander accompanies the Governor, the Governor's family, politicians and others around New Zealand. The accounts are profusely illustrated with artworks, photographs, newspaper clippings and other mementoes of Alexander's travels. The events and adventures described are: A cruise on the Government steamer `Hinemoa' to New Zealand's sub-antarctic islands, 27 December 1900 to 21 January 1900. Included are sketches by Alexander, plant specimens, newspaper clippings and a photograph of the `Hinemoa'. A March 1901 tour on the Governor's train through the central North Island to Lake Taupo. A April 1901 tour by horse and train from Auckland to Wellington via Tauranga, Kati Kati, Paeroa, Te Kuiti, Mokau, New Plymouth, Opunake and Hawera, with accompanying map and photographs. A December 1901-January 1902 second visit to the sub-antarctic islands on the "SS Tutanekai". On this visit Ranfurly was accompanied by his wife and by the artist C N Worsley. Accompanying the account are sketch maps by Alexander, watercolours by Lady Ranfurly and Worsley, a sketch of an seabird by Dr Wilson of the Antarctic `Discovery' expedition, and a photograph of Alexander and Lady Ranfurly shooting seabirds. An account of a excursion on the Tasman Glacier, 12-16 February with Lady Ranfurly, with a watercolour sketch of Alexander by Lady Ranfurly, sketch maps and photographs. A March 1902 excursion to Mount Cook through central Otago, where Alexander describes the gold fields at length, Alexandra and Dunedin, illustrated with sketches, photographs, a map, and a small gold nugget. A railway journey on the lines south of Auckland, through Waingaro and Cambridge and on to Rotorua and surrounding districts, through the King Country and back to Auckland, accompanied by photographs and newspaper clippings. A drive through inland Victoria, Australia, in November 1902. A fishing expedition to the Opihi River near Timaru. A April-March 1903 expedition on the Tasman Glacier with photographs. Clippings relating to the Antarctic `Discovery' expedition of 1901-1903, with a sketch map by Alexander and a 23 March letter from Edward Evans of the expedition. A May 1903 railway journey to Rotorua from Auckland, with sketches and photographs of Tarawera and thermal areas, and on to Te Aroha and then to Te Kuiti, Waimarino and surrounding areas. Their are extensive photographs of and sketches of the party, the thermal areas and of a Maori whare inspected at Te Kuiti. A February excursion on the `Hinemoa' to Collingwood, Karamea, Westport, Greymouth, and back to Nelson. A journey through the Urewera ranges to Ruatoki to talk with Tuhoe leaders, with extensive photographs of the expedition. This expedition is also covered in a photograph album. Quantity: 1 volume(s). Description: Album of photographs compiled by George Gordon Denniston illustrating a soldier's experience of of the Gallipoli campaign, April to September 1915. Photographer(s) unidentified. Album covers the period when Denniston left New Zealand in April 1915 for Egypt, and his time in a military camp there on the outskirts of Alexandria, from where, it seems, he left for Gallipoli. At the begining there are two photographs of the Samoan Expeditionary Force returning to New Zealand. The rest show soldiers preparing to leave and scenes on board ship which include stabled horses being fed en route, and dead ones being dropped overboard. Shipboard life and activities are well documented. There are many photos of fellow soldiers and some of the Asian crewmen. Ships and islands seen while passing through the Red Sea are depicted. Also some views of streets and people in Suez. Finally Alexandria and camp life. Over half the album is taken up with life and events at the military camp at Sidi Bishr which seems to have been situated near one of the suburban outskirts of Alexandria. This experience has been recorded in some detail, and includes social visits from women, views of French cavalry exercises, care and maintenance of the horses, native funerals and camp life in general. Description: Log book kept by Barnes while he was serving aboard HMS Minotaur, HMS Pearl and HMS Sappho. During the first voyage HMS Minotaur travelled from Portsmouth to Lisbon, Madeira and Gibraltar. During the second voyage HMS Pearl and HMS Sappho travelled from Portsmouth to Lisbon, Cape of Good Hope, Perth, New Zealand, Samoa, Fiji, Sydney, Melbourne, Tasmania, Adelaide and New Hebrides. During the second voyage Barnes was aboard HMS Sappho for most of the month of August 1875. The log book contains nautical entries, facts, maps and watercolours relating to the voyages. After the October 3rd 1874 entry, there is a longer commentary on the recovery of the ship McGregor off the coast of Fiji. Description: Photographs taken during the trial of Rua Kenana in 1916 at the Supreme Court in Auckland. Includes portraits of people associated with Rua and the trial, and most of the photographs were taken outside the Supreme Court. Photographer unidentified, except for a two-part panorama of Maungapohatu Pa, probably taken by Percy R Wilkinson, a surveyor sent in by the police to gather evidence for them A label at the back of the album advertises Walter Suckling (as the publisher?) It is understood that a number of similar photograph albums of the trial were created. Rua Kenana was accused of using seditious language, counselling others to murder or disable the police, and resisting arrest.
