Included at the beginning of the volume is an itinerary for Woods' visit which details locations visited in Australia and New Zealand as well as ports visited en route from England. All have rifles in their posession, and are dressed wrapped in cloaks or blankets. The Library also holds Wanganui and pier [?] from cave, New Zealand [185-?], published by W E & F Newton (Curios-021-007), showing the scene in a similar way, by an unknown artist. Description: Silver-plated, ovoid-shaped tureen, probably for holding vegetables. Features a roll-top lid with an ivory handle, and decorated legs and carrying handles. Fitted within is a removable shallow oval dish with separate perforated draining tray. Inscriptions: [On front of roll-top lid] Presented to Joseph Lowthian Wilson on his journalistic jubilee, August 13 1913, as a mark of esteem from his co-workers on the staffs [sic] of the Christchurch Press Coy., Ltd.; [On underside of the tureen] EP [three five-pointed stars within the shape of a three-leaf clover] NS 37594 Joseph Lowthian Wilson was the north Canterbury reporter and agent for the Christchurch Press, based in Kaiapoi. Description: A group of six red-coated soldiers (with part of a seventh on the far right) and one "friendly" Maori in the foreground, behind a low shelter, loading and shooting towards the extensive palisades of Hone Heke's pa at Ohaiawai. The palisades are shown with rifle holes continously along the base to enable firing from behind protection; the English soldiers and their companion, on the other hand, are having to raise their heads above their shelter to fire, with the exception of those on the far right, who are behind a Maori-style palisade.
