Description: Shows a lone gravestone with a small gated surround, high atop a hill above Nelson, with the Boulder Bank in view below. The gravestone is inscribed 'Sacred to the memory of Henry A Bell, aged 19'. Arrow (Fifeshire) Rock is set just out of view of the painting, to the lower left. Various ships and boats can be seen in the Nelson Haven area of Tasman Bay, between the Boulder Bank and the coast. One of the boats is a waka with two sails Bell's brother Henry (called by his middle name, Angelo), went to Nelson about 1841 as secretary to Arthur Wakefield. He died of typhoid within a year of arriving. Like Angelo, Francis was usually called by his middle name, Dillon Quantity: 1 watercolour(s). Possibly originally part of the collection of Francis Dillon Bell. Description: Shows the coastal road and hills of the Nelson foreshore, with what is now Abel Tasman National Park seen in the distance. Two Maori carry a rod between them with a line of fish hanging from it. Various houses can be seen at the road's edge, and boats of different types are in the water. One dinghy in the foreground is kept under a roofed shelter. Description: Shows the huts of the first settlers at Petone, and the first four ships to bring settlers to Wellington, anchored between Somes Island and Petone Beach. A view from the western hills looking out towards the harbour entrance. Identifies Hutt River, Somes Island, Evans Bay and Wellington The original drawing on which this lithograph is based is at A-146-001 The ships shown are probably the first four immigrant ships to arrive in Wellington, the Aurora, the Oriental, the Duke of Roxburgh and the Bengal Merchant. In the foreground, amongst bush and low scrub is a party of six European men, two leading on horseback, one with two dogs. The engraved version has a single man with a dog in a different position in the foreground, and a flock of sheep. Description: View from where Moreing's Creek enters the Hutt River, looking south towards Petone, with the Western Hills to the right. H. W. Petre's house is the furthest house to the far right and the other houses are spread along Petone foreshore. Two horsemen about to cross the bridge over the creek, a Maori man on the far side of the creek and flax lining both river and creek. The central large house may be the Queen's Head Inn Original of no 41 in Brees' "Pictorial Illustrations of New Zealand" Petre's house on the right is likely to be his first home at Petone, rather than his second built at Woburn, which was further into the valley and on the other side of the Hutt River.
