Description: Map is hand coloured to a key that reads: 'Lines of road proposed to be made - red. Local position of Military settlements - red circles. Lines of road to be made at a future period - brown. The crosses (black) represent the distribution of the Native Population approximately each cross representing about 100 souls.' The military settlements are most dense in the Wanganui, South Taranaki, New Plymouth, Waipa, Waikato and South Waikato districts and north of the Manawatu River. No such settlements are identified around Wellington, Auckland, Napier or the East Coast north of Mahia. Description: The main map of the freehold estate, with frontage and depth measurements, is adjacent to the part of the Hutt River marked as the only place fordable in case of accident to the bridge which leads to Plowman Street. The site of the Hutt Bridge is marked downstream. A minor change to the riverbank as at Aug. 1860, has been added at a later date. A road, pencilled in and also added at a later date, is marked 'Road as on ground.' Betweeen Plowman Street and the site of the Mechanics Institute are three sections, labelled allotments. The first includes the site of a well, while the third has a site of a house in which the store room, kitchen, parlour and bedroom are named. All three allotments are marked as sold. Paddocks are marked with measurements in roods and perches, one including a slaughter house and stockyard. A lake is marked in the vicinity of the street provisionally planned for the bridge approach. An area of land is labelled 'Street as originally laid out, but the situation of the bridge will render it useless as a street.' This has been divided into lots. Lot A is annotated 'To be given to Mr Ploughman' [sic]. Lot B 'Reserve for a lockup'.' Lot C 'Given to Capt. Daniell to compensate for road taken out of his ground'. Includes an annotation 'W. Fox, Ch. L. Court'. The leasehold estate, with frontage measurements, includes the site of houses with a dairy, kitchen, parlour and bedrooms marked. A second site includes the parlour, shop and verandah. Originally one lot, this was divided into two at a later date. Note on verso states: Plan of Plowmans estate, which has Riddiford written across it and has also been struck through and Mr Riddiford's Plans written underneath Signature of Cobham in bottom right corner Note on catalogue card states that Cobham arrived ca1854 Quantity: 2 manuscript map(s) on one sheet. Description: Cadastral map of the proposed subdivision of land at the mouth of the Waikanae River into 370 sections with provision for roads, school, recreation and public reserves, a post office. The boundary of one section belonging to J. Watson, has been redrawn in pencil. Total measurements of roads and reserves are listed in acreas and perches. Sections are un-numbered and roads are un-named. A note states that the distance to Paraparaumu Railway Station is two and a half miles and that 50 chains of road to olbe formed to link with the Soldier Settlement. Land adjacent to the proposed settlement belongs to M. W. Donovan. Description: A base cadastral map of thirty-two numbered sections with acreages and some boundary measurements, in part of the Pukawa land block, owned by Kahu Te Kuru, in the Puketi survey district. The annotation to this map shows the numbered sections outlined as far as the lake's edge. One section is marked for community use (parking). Roads included are Motutaiko Street and Pihanga Road which is noted as formed, metalled and being legalised. Includes reserves adjacent to Lake Taupo, and the lines of the current lake edge in 1963 and the lake edge by M.L. 3729. Two areas of 4C3 are marked for development by Trustees. Includes references to D.P. 23996, M.L. 3729, M.L. 4851. Extended Title - Scheme plan of proposed subdivision of part Pukewa 4C3, Block III Puketi survey district. Title of this map with ms annotations is that of the base map Certified note at bottom of map reads: I. Description: Manuscript map covering the Ruahine and Kaweka ranges to the Mohaka River, eastward to the coast at Napier and southwards to Cape Kidnappers, Te Aute and the Ruataniwha plains. Depicts settler properties and land ownership, roads, rivers, settlements, Maori placenames, tracks and a pa sites named Pa Whakairo and 'Hapuku's Pa'. Some settler names include Rev Williams in Te Aute, James Williams, Tippen, Herrick, Carlyon, Mason, Smith, Oliver, McLean, Chambers, Rhodes, Lowry, Speedy, Whitmore and McNiels [McNeils] runs. Identifies an area of land between the Rivers Ngaruroro and Tutaekuri as Maori land. Map originally folded into eight. Title added to linen mount of map in pencil with square brackets.
