Description: Topographic map of the area from Albion Reef to Ohau Bay to Makara Stream. Shows: Track to Golden Crown workings; Siedge track to bay; Present Bridle Track Main Ridge; Track from Snowden Saddle to Makara Road; South Makara former Road (from Mr Siever's house to Junction): Makara Road; Deans Old Track, Mr Snowden's Road to Ohau Bay; Ohau Bay and Te Kaminaru Bay. Also shows a note which reads: C. L. Mr A Mackay States J.W.A.M. 15.8.83. Includes roads, the gradients of which are referred to in a key. The site of a a church is marked Names include Lowry, Trotter and D. Ashdown. Map is a tracing of a photocopy of the original which was possibly roll plan 407 in Wellington Survey Office. Traced by draughtsman on behalf of Mr Brodie. Reduction from original means that scale on map is incorrect. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s). Description: Photocopy of elaborately drawn coloured manuscript map by W.H. Burnand inserted in his copy of the New Zealand Journal, v.5, p. 312, 1845. Includes much text on map e.g. 'The land round this lagoon swampy', "Beautiful valley'. Gives Ahururi Harbour another name, Hauriru, describing 'at the mouth of the river are two islands, little else than sand, no wood or water'. Data from Capt. Rhodes report 1841, and from Col. Wakefield, Mr Tiffen and Capt. Kettle. Shows routes taken by Stokes and Harrison, from Wellington up the East Coast to Hawkes Bay. Scale out of proportion. Note on verso of original : Ahuriri see 5th March 1853 Gaz - see description of Ahuriri in the Nov. 12, 57 NZ Gazette p.801. Description: Topographic map of the coastline from Lambton Harbour to Lyall Bay. Evans Bay is marked, includes depths in fathoms and the site of the dock with acreages and including the hill behind. In Lambton Harbour the site of a wharf adjacent to an area of reclaimed land is marked as is the site of the city of Wellington. Signal stations and a pilot's station are marked. The area of land from Evans Bay to Lyall bay is divided into numbered sections, part of which is named Burnham Water with notes which state that this land is now drained and that the whole peninsula is good grazing land and used as a sheep and cattle farm. The site of a homestead of Major Mc. Barnet is marked in section 9, about 390 acreas, on the peninsula. A homestead and stockyard etc. are marked at Evans Bay. Port Nicholson and Cook Strait are marked. Stamp on bottom left corner states: Waterlow and Sons, London - improved. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s). Description: Drawn on a base map, show military defence plan annotations for the Wellington Harbour (Port Nicholson), including the position of Bofors (single guns and darkness only bofors), heavy AA (anti-aircraft) guns, searchlights and light area; coast searchlights and light beam; motorised machine gun section, anti-tank guns, 18 pdr (powder) section, navy patrol ships, illuminated areas, and the United States Navy patrol area. Base map: North Island. Port Nicholson. From surveys by Captn J Stokes & Comr. G.H. Richards, RN, and the officers of HMS Surveying Ship 'Acheron', 1849....and the Wellington Harbour Board, 1903-4, with corrections to 1931.' (Wellington, Department of Lands & Survey, 1932).' Description: Hydrographic map with soundings, of Port Nicholson, Wellington Harbour (Whanganui a Tara), showing the shoreline shape, suitable anchorages, details of fathom depths, outlying rocks; pa sites at Palmer Head, kainga in Worser Bay; a fresh water lake and pond in present day Miramar; fresh water supply in Evan's Bay, Petone and Ngauranga; Somes Island and a large flax marsh at Petone. Indicates latitude and longitude. (From catalogue card) Probably one of the copies by Barnett, one of which was presented to the Harbour Master at Sydney, J.
