A Maori woman and a child, both dressed in blankets, are standing just inside the door contemplating the church. Title and date inscribed in pencil on mount. Description: The view from Titokitoki Hill of Rangiatea Church with its surrounding fence, the graveyard on the hill behind (with Kiharoa's grave visible on the top of the hill) and a small house to the right. Part of the palisade of a pa on the left, cabbage trees and several small figures on the flat ground. Possibly copied from Octavius Hadfield's drawing of this church (now in Auckland Museum), although Mary Medley visited Otaki herself on a number of occasions and would have been capable of producing this drawing at the age of 16. The reference to Titokitoki is to the name of the hill opposite Rangiatea Church, from which this view was taken Title formerly read as: Otaki House Titokitoki. Formerly attributed to Mary Lysaght.
