Description: Powhiri (official welcoming ceremony) for Governor Sir William Jervois, Lady Jervois, and party (Miss A Jervois, Reverend W Jervois, Miss A Richmond, and Major C V Eccles) at Omiti, a Ngati Pare kainga, on Kawhia Harbour, by chiefs of Ngati Hikairo, Hone Te One, Te Huki (Hone Wetere), Pikia Haurua, Tiki Taimana (Rihare Tauwhare), and Tetahi Rahi (or Te Tihirahi) of Ngati Haua. Shows a scene outside the homestead of Te Huki or Hone Wetere at Omiti, where a group of Maori are seated under the verandah. On the left, Maori chief Te Huki (Hone Wetere) holds a taiaha. The Governor, and his group, are on the right. Hone Te One is seated on the verandah to the back. Photograph taken Friday, 14 March 1884, by William Williams. Description: Prime Minister Jim Bolger is described as if he were a bird. Extended Title - Equally at home in wet or dry surroundings. Can move right wing over to join left wing and vice versa. Now found most often in lower North Island but still nests in King Country where it has bred prolifically. Like its relative, the cattle egret, used to hunt ticks on cows - now thrives on ticks on ballot papers. Began life as a large egg. Experts differ on whether it still is. Quantity: 1 photocopy/ies.
