Description: Shows a section of the waterfront path at Kohukohu, Hokianga Harbour. A Maori mother and child walk along the path, and there is a wooden building on piles built over the water at the left. This building probably later became the Waterline Cafe, on reclaimed land at the water's edge. By early 21st century, had been sold into private hands. A row of wooden shop frontages is visible on left of frame, including the Hawera Butchery owned by Scott Nichols & Co. A horse and cart is standing on the roadside. Date of photographs taken from history of Hawera Butchery. Owned by Messers Thomas Scott and William Nichol from 15 December 1880, their partnership was dissolved on the retirement of Scott in March 1881.William Shearer then became a partner in the business (see Hawera & Normanby Star, Volume I, Issue 72, 18 December 1880, Page 3 and Volume I, Issue 98, 23 March 1881, Page 2.
