Description: Seaplane "F" of the New Zealand Flying School parked in shallow water at the edge of the beach at Kohimarima, Auckland. George bolt is in the back cockpit, and three student pilots are variously engaged in the water and on a float. Photograph taken by Anton Berntsen between 1917-1918. This was one of two Boeing seaplanes bought in 1916 by the Walsh Brothers for their New Zealand Flying School, Kohimarama, Auckland. The two aircraft were the first produced by Boeing, and the first was completed in June 1916. The company first offered the planes to the US Navy who did not buy them, after which they were sold to the Walsh Brothers. After the war they made New Zealand record breaking flights, and were used in early air mail delivery trials. The planes were B&W Boeing seaplanes, the B and the W referring to William Boeing and Navy Lt Conrad Westervelt who designed them. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s).
