Description: Seated portrait of Kawakawa (Bay of Islands) chief Rangituke, his wife leaning on his shoulder, his son seated at his feet, viewed, according to the artist, 'from the window of my hut at the Bay of Islands' (Russell or Kawakawa?). A carved storehouse is in the right background and a whare and storage platform on the left, with the sea beyond. According to Earle 'it illustrates the general attachment of the natives of New Zealand to their wives and children'.
