Description: A view from the Tasman Glacier looking straight up the Hochstetter Glacier with Haast Ridge on the right. The Hochstetter Icefall ends in a small lake. In the background are Mount Tasman on the right and Mount Cook on the left. In the middle ground are Green and his two companions Kaufmann and Boss. A camera tripod is to the right of the men. On the verso is a schematic outline of the watercolour, with features named and 'Line of ascent, March 1, 2 & 3 1882' marked in front of Mount Tasman and pointing up Mount Cook. Green also mentions that the outline [and therefore probably the watercolour] is taken from a photograph taken at the time.
