Description: 'Mum' and 'Dad', holding a newspaper titled 'Real estate prices soar', stare with dismay at their son, his partner, three children, a dog and a large amount of luggage, arriving at the front door. The son announces that he has thought of a way for his parents to 'help us save for a house'. In June 2013 house prices, especially in Auckland and Christchurch, continued to soar. Savings for a deposit, especially with loan restrictions, seemed to be out of the reach of most families. For many families, continuing to live with their parents and other family members, with the concomitant overcrowding and stress, seemed to be the only option.
