Description: O Class steam locomotive NZR 99, 2-8-0 type, with two railway men (J Walsh sitting on the front of the engine, and Frank Joseph Golder standing near the back). Photograph taken circa 1921 at Cross Creek by Albert Percy Godber. Names of men from Godber Album vol 108, p 36; date and location from 'Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives' by A N Palmer & W W Stewart, p 56. Other - Original print at Pa1-q-101 (Godber album vol 108, p 36) Source of descriptive information - Full name and life dates of F Golder provided by family member. Dated 1921 assuming F Golder was approximately 40 years old at the time the photograph was taken, and in relation to the fact the locomotive was written off in 1922. O class locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia; went into service in January 1886, and was written off in May 1922.
