Description: Topographic map of the area from Cape Palliser and Cape Turakirai [sic], the Rimutaka and Tararua Ranges, to Taumatawanga and the Warehana River. Shows land blocks taken up by various runholders, lands not purchased, and includes various Maori names for natural features. Rivers and streams are named. Names include G. Scott, M.A. Buxton, R. Description: Map of Akitio station from the coast includes the Akitio River to the Puketoi range to the boundary between the Wellington and Hawkes Bay districts. Donald Mclean's land is divided into two areas, one marked 'purchased land' and the second shaded area 'estimated contents ac. 10.000'. Two pencilled notes refer to the estimated acreage of the shaded area as 8,500 rather than 10,000 acres. Description: Shows a view looking down from a rocky outcrop (partially seen in the extreme left foreground), on to the field of a farm with horses, cattle, a farmhouse, outbuildings, and at far right a haystack. A row of trees runs along one of the boundaries of the property, parallel to the river in the background. On the far side of the river are limestone cliffs and hills. The locality is more commonly known as Clifden, and Cyclopedia of New Zealand, volume 4, Otago and Southland, decribes it as having been a large sheep station. Other Titles - Clifden Notes on backing board recto: Painting of Clifdene Station on the Waiau River, Southland. Formerly owned by R W Aitken. Painted by a French artist. Description: Shows a view of the two-storeyed homestead and two other closer single-storey buildings. There are cattle and sheep grazing in the paddock to the right, and bare hills in the background. Identified as Cheviot Hills Station by a previous owner. It is possible that the hills are bare as a result of the painting's being unfinished, with the top of the bush line just sketched in. Cf a more wooded image of Cheviot Hill Station, showing [the same?] buildings from a different angle, at NON-ATL-P-0083 (digitised). Description: Shows `Matara', the homestead of H Harper at Wai Ora, Aramoho, Wanganui, in the 1890s. The Whanganui River runs alongside on the left, the farmhouse and outbuildings are on cleared flat land with a slight indication of a garden, fences and rows of trees. Two horses (or cows) are grazing near the river. Flax in the foreground In 1859, Mary Medley's sister, Laura, married Thomas Henry Harper of Wai Ora, Aramoho, Whanganui. Thomas Henry Harper died in 1873. This view is likely to show the Wai Ora property of his son, Henry Harper, nephew of the artist.
