Description: Map of the coastline from Cape Rodney to Orewa, and continuing inland as far as Wainui and Ahuroa. Numerous points along the coast and some blocks are named. Rivers, tracks and settlements are marked but are unnamed. Some blocks are labelled Native Land. Title written in pencil above the map probably added at a later date. A reference key indicates building types, such as the position of military barracks,the Surveyor General and the Colonial Secretary's office, five hotels, an inn, a post office, jail, court house, bank and a church, Includes undated pencil annotations of streets after reclaiming of land in Commercial Bay, such as Custom House St and Commerce St, as well as the streets Albert and Hobson. Description: Survey plan of the Auckland Albert Barracks, showing the boundaries of the barracks extending out to what later became Wellesley St, Kitchener St, Symonds St, Princes St and Alfred St. The barracks are enclosed by a stone wall (annotated note indicates part of the wall still in existence). Within the barracks is the armoury, a school, sergeant's quarters, military prison, Major Tisdall's house, the 'Dead House', large garden, the magazine, store and drill shed. Shows the Military Road, next to Government grounds, on what became Princes St. The 'Northern Club' is indicated on the corner of Waterloo Rd. Indicates building materials. Compiled by R.S. Description: Cadastral map of Manukau harbour Auckland, depicting Native Land blocks, named settler sections (with acreage between 74 and 303 acres), a reserve (over 74 acres), swamp lots, a native village, a spring reserve, and identifying Nixon's 'hut'. Settler names include Grahame, six separate blocks totalling over 833 acres, Greenwood, four blocks totally over 468 acres, Nixon, four blocks of over 420 acres, Gitti's, 1000 acres, Fairburn, Bagston, and 184 acres bought 'for some person in England'. A vast area is titled 'unsettled claims'. A pencilled note reads 'Those lots not coloured are state unsold'. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s). Description: Map presumed to be created by or a copy of a map by Hochstetter because of similarity with Hochstetter's 'Map of the southern part of the province of Auckland' Shows observations of an inland journey in 1859, showing rivers, plateaus, areas of dense forest, limestone ranges and harbours. Shows hot springs, waterfalls, volcanic and pumice areas, probable coal fields as well as native settlements.
