Description: A panoramic view of the Clyde Glacier, taken from the ridge between the Agnes Stream Valley and the main Clyde Valley. Clyde Glacier is no longer a current name. The Clyde Glacier is much reduced in size since the 19th century and is now the two separate Frances and Sir Colin Campbell Glaciers. The Frances Glacier is the source of the Frances River, flowing into Clyde Stream and the Rangitata River. Possibly Haast's original for John Gully's watercolour, 'The great Clyde Glacier, real source of the River Clyde (Rangitata) 3762 ft' (Library reference number C-096-003), painted as an illustration for Haast's lecture to the Royal Geographical Society, London in 1864 Title transcribed from item.
