Description: Surveyor Julius von Haast's visual notes on his surroundings during climbs in the Nelson Lakes district. Valleys and mountain ranges with peaks and other features marked. A two-page spread with the Buller River in the foreground, a (riverside) beach opposite, and Mount Lyell and Mt Newton identified. Pages 24 and 25 from a survey notebook, with notes in Haast's hand; cf. his Report of a topographical & geological exploration ...
