Description: Hand-drawn plan principally showing a survey of the Hooker Glacier. The map also shows part of the Mount Cook Range including Mt Wakefield, Mt Mabel and Mt Rosa, the Mona, Noeline, Empress and Sheila Glaciers and part of the Tasman Glacier. Gives topographic features and also indicates the track taken by Mr Sealy in 1867 and the position he reached as well as the position reached by J H Baker in 1889. Some vegetation marked. with Mona, Noeline, Empress and Sheila Glaciers shown. Given the source of the map it is assumed that Brodrick is the surveyor, the other possiblity being J H Baker. Brodrick was responsible from 1887-92 for surveying the pastoral runs in South Canterbury and in the course of this work mapped a large portion of the eastern side of the Southern Alps from the Rangitata to the Hunter Rivers and extensive observations of the behaviour of the glaciers in the region. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s). Physical Description: Ink and pencil on dressed linen, coloured, 54 x 38 cm. Transfers: Transferred from Manuscripts February 1965. No details exist in Manuscripts inventory about what was transferred. These maps had 'ms from Brodrick papers' noted on the Cartographic Catalogue cards. - From Manuscripts & Archives - Brodrick, Thomas Noel, 1855-1931. Papers. Reference - MS-Papers-0068.
