[Ryan, Thomas], 1864-1927 :Te Kooti's sacred house at Te Whaiti called Ko Whakaari Eripi which is one of the most sacred worshipping whares in the Urewera Country. Anyone taking matches, pipes, or tobacco into this whare have them immediately confiscated if found on their person, and Te Kooti says the offence is punishable by the Atua. [1891].
