The Cwnard-White Star liner Mauretania, now being built at Cammel Laird's shipyard, Birkenhead, drawn by an artist from the architect's plans. The new ship will be over 750 ft in length, and have a gross tonnage of about 33,000. She will be launched by Lady Bates, wife of Sir Percy Bates, chairman of the Cunard-White Star Line, in January next. (Evening Post, 18 December 1937)
Auto-Union and Mercedes are making history in record breaking on Germany's wonderful new roads. Not content with staggering figures (over 250 m.p.h.) for motor-cars, however.
