On a recent visit to the'vfirm we found that ample prcparatins had been made in all departments for the reception of. ucav goods for the spring' season; but we purpose confining our remarks to the dress department. Hie silks, with their great variety and ricliiie&s of effect, are pleasing features to review, and here we find much to engross our attention. Tussore silks, we notice, arc still going strong, and ali qualities and widths arc to be found in stock. The display of fancy silks seems to become move tasteful and effective every ydar, some chene and printod types being specially noticeable. French miieiiuiH and delaines arc, shown iv many pleasing effects. There is this year much to be said in favour of the English printed goods, the beauty and softness of their finish being remarkable. Novelties include frieze linen, a capital idea, iv #ich the introduction of a white curl thread conveys the effect of a .wool frieze.
