Mr. Albert Fishburn, of Petone, who this week was presented with the Royal Humane Society's silver medal for saving the life of an elderly man off the Petone foreshore on April 28. Fox Photo. Britain's biggest air-raid shelter was recently completed in Southwark, London, and is estimated to hold 14,000 people. Here is an entrance in Borough High Street, one of several. The shelter is made in the. Borough Tube Tunnel, ivhich was built in 1892, and has been adapted at a cost of £50,000. (Evening Post, 21 August 1940)
