PROFESSOR SOMMERVILLE, M.A. The New Zealand Institute has awarded the Hector Memorial Medal and Prize for 1928 to Professor D. M. V, Sommerville, M.A., D.Sc, F.N.Z.lnst., for his general mathematical work and particularly for his investigations in non-Euclidian geo■metry. The .Institute's Committee which recommended the award consisted of Dr. C. Coleridge Farr (Canterbury College), Sir Ernest Rutherford, and Professor O. U. yon Wilier (Sydney University). Professor Sommerville occupies the Chair of Mathematics at Victoria University College. (Evening Post, 10 May 1928)
