Air Marshal Sir Arthur Bafratt, who has been appointed head of the Army Co-operation Command under the new scJieme of .cooperation between air and land forces.. . '.„■••' Air Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, chief of the Fighter Command of the R.A.F. since 1936, who goes to the United States on a special mission. (Evening Post, 19 November 1940)
i Captain Henry Barne/t. Bay steamed towards the enemy, whose second salvo hit the Jervis Bay amidships. "Then the raider concentrated on the Rangitiki. Its first salvo fell 400 yards short, the second straddled us j amidships, and the third again | straddled us forward of the bridge. One shell landed less than 50 yards away, smothering the bridge with shell fragments, but without doing appreciable damage. But for a light south-easterly that enabled our smoke to screen us, it is unlikely that we would have escaped." Captain Barnett had not removed his l clothes for a week.
