The Kiyg, accompanied by the Queen and Princess Elizabeth, recently visited several stations of the Koyal Canadian Bomber Group in England to make presentations of awards to officers and men and to congratulate air crews and ground staff on the excellent record they had established during many bombing trips over Germany and occupied Europe. The Queen and Princess Elizabeth are seen posing for Canadian airmen to take snaps, tvhilst his Majesty looks on. (Evening Post, 11 November 1944)
Lance-Corporal I. F. McGirr. talion, and after the war broke out he went overseas with the Eighth Reinforcements. He was twice previously wounded in action. Lahce-Corporal McGirr was a member of the Technical College Old Boys Soccer team and of the Seatoun Tennis Club. He was also well known as a swimmer. He was the only grandchild of Mrs. A. E. Mc-Girr, well known in croquet circles, and a nephew of Mr. Herb McGirr New Zealand and Wellington representative cricketer. (Evening Post, 11 November 1944)

Mrs. Chapman, of the Africa Star and.the insignia denoting mention in dispatches, was in London at the outbreak of war. In 1941 she went to the Middle East, where she was attached to the New Zealand V.M.C.A., which operated the Lowry Hut, near Cairo, presented by her father. Mrs. Chapman, who is the only woman in the N.Z.Y.M.C.A., has worked behind the Mediterranean front lines ever since her arrival in Egypt and for the past nine months has been in Italy. . ..'....:, (Evening Post, 11 November 1944)
