Description

Comprises photographic prints and photographic postcards of people, landscapes, and buildings, taken by various photographers circa 1890s to circa 1950s. Some of the photographs have been annotated with identifying information such as names of subjects, dates, photographers’ stamps, locations, and descriptions of the scenes. People and photographers are largely unidentified.

Includes group and individual portraits of predominantly unidentified persons, including several portrait photographs showing women in fancy dress, circa 1920s and 1930s; outdoor portraits taken circa 1920s; photographs of a wedding; studio portraits of men in military uniform; a group portrait of a women’s hockey team; a group portrait of Baston’s Commercial Training College Reunion, taken 1919 by W Beattie; a group portrait of a men’s rugby team, circa 1920s, and others.

Identified persons include Gwennie and Gladys Gee; Gladys Robson; F Connett [sic], taken circa 1915; Eric Evelyn Carew (1892-1965), taken circa 1915; Mav [sic] Moore; Phyllis Robertson, taken 1915, and others. Also identified is a Mrs O Inglis, who is also referred to as Olive and Olly. Several of the photographic postcards included in the collection have been addressed to "Olly", possibly suggesting the collection had belonged to her.

Also includes landscape scenes, including a view of Orakei-Korako, several photographs of an unidentified beach, and views of the lake at Ocean Falls, Canada, taken June 1940.

Also includes items of photographic ephemera, including photograph envelopes and cards.
