W B & Co (Firm), W Beattie & Company

Fine art and postcard publishers, ca 1909. After a partnership with stationer Sanderson 1897-1900, photographer William Beattie set up his own business in about 1900. He had premises in Shortland Street. In about 1920 his son took over some of the photographic work, and in 1926 he sold his building and retired. William Beattie died in 1931. (Information from Postcard pillar, no.57, February 2002, p.5). NB: 91 Shortland Street.

They include one of two Maori women washing clothes at Rotorua, another of the Royal visit in 1927 and a family group of seven men and three women possibly taken in Belfast. A number of the postcards have been used. Also included are five original photographs which have been captioned with the family connections: a soldier in uniform, possibly named Ralph Ferguson; Uncle Henry Babe's wedding photograph; cousin Violet Bradford in America; Albert and Elizabeth (Eliza) Babe (brother and sister) and four others; Thomas and Fanny Babe (grandpa and grandma) with Eliza, Harold, Albert, Olivia, Queenie and Gladys.
