Description

Five ex-air radio programme items recorded and/or accumulated by the New Zealand Cartoon Archive Trust relating to publicity for the opening of the New Zealand Cartoon Archive (NZCA) on 1 April 1992. Comprises:

A Radio New Zealand National "Nine to Noon" programme interview by Linda Rose with guests Alan Moir and David Lange. Topics include: cartooning and politicians; the work of Tom Scott, Minhinnick, Garrick Tremain, Chris Slane, Trace Hodgson, and Les Gibbard; newspaper industry and cartooning; New Zealand success in cartooning; and the importance of the New Zealand Cartoon Archive.

A Radio New Zealand National "Checkpoint" programme containing a news item by Reporter Bronwyn Evans featuring interviews with Ian Grant, David Lange, Tom Scott, and Murray Ball. Topics include: reasons for collecting and archiving cartoons; cartoons and democracy; racism in cartoons; and comments on their work.

A 2ZB Radio client copy recording of a talkback programme item in which Host Sharon Crosbie interviews Murray Ball and Ian Grant. Topics include: establishment of NZCA; Neville Lodge; attitudes of politicians; different styles; Bromhead; "Footrot Flats" cartoon strip; and overseas success of New Zealand cartoonists.

A Radio New Zealand "Good Morning New Zealand" programme interview by Geoff Robinson with Alan Moir. Topics include: Moir's cartoons of David Lange; New Zealanders' success as cartoonists; attitudes of individuals portrayed; and pressures on publishers.

Arrangement: The radio programme items were arranged by the NZCA over three audiocasettes as "Tape 1" to Tape 6"; each "tape" corresponding to a side of an audiocasette. This arrangement is described in the accompanying abstract.
