Freda Torrens born Waihi. Outlines family background - parents came from Scotland - father worked for Borough Council. Aged 5 years when father died. Recalls leaving school when 13 years and working for Headmaster of East School and later for Anglican minister. Gives a description of the latter. Talks about flu epidemic and the spraying treatment. Recalls swimming at Junction Dam and describes swimming costumes worn. Talks about the night carts.
