Description

Original caption reads "Koruru (figure head in gable) of the old Kotahitanga meeting house at Manankau. Height, 3ft; width, 2ft.6in. Extremely heavy." Photographed by George Leslie Adkin on 26 November 1933.

Kotahitanga was the name of a meeting house built about 1863 at Manakau, a community south of Levin. It was built to bring together the Ngati Wehiwehi people of Manakau with the Maori King movement. It was pulled down about 1936.
