Trees and shrubs are visible around and behind the house. A wooden park bench is situated in front of the mahau. Negatives numbered 1-3 Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s) strip with 4 frames. Physical Description: 60mm negative strip branded Ilford FP4 safety film, 6 x 18.5cm Processing information: Negatives were received in a plastic sleeve stamped "Juon Plastics Ltd Old Windsor UK", with two self-adhesive labels attached. Description: 20 scenes on at least three different marae. On one the occasion is probably a tangi and on the others there are large gatherings including dance. A lot of detail can be seen of the whare whakairo. There are also two scenes of a man addressing a gathering near a memorial to Abel Tasman on which the inscription reads "Abel Tasman Dutch navigator voyaged West Coast 13th December 1642". There is a cross above the koruru (carved head ornamenting the front gable); there is no carving on the maihi (facing boards on the front gable), but the raparapa (projecting portion of the maihi) is carved. Description: Original caption reads "Koruru (figure head in gable) of the old Kotahitanga meeting house at Manankau. Height, 3ft; width, 2ft.6in. Extremely heavy." Photographed by George Leslie Adkin on 26 November 1933. Kotahitanga was the name of a meeting house built about 1863 at Manakau, a community south of Levin.
