A young child pulls the tail of a cat and an infant cries in its pram. A Scottish terrier pulls wet washing out of the laundry basket. The man's wife, dressed in the uniform of the Women's War Services Auxiliary, calls to him "No talking in the ranks, John!" and he is thinking "Have I joined the Home Guard?
