Photographs of family and group portraits, taken ca 1898-1936 by various photographers including Whitehead Brothers, Charles Sorrell and Vaile. Includes a portrait of the Hawke's Bay representative rugby union team, 1900, with all individuals identified; groups of World War I soldiers; and photographs relating to Te Aute College, including rugby teams and a group of officers of the Te Aute College Cadet Corps.

Listed in nominal rolls as 2nd Lieutenant in 4th Maori contingent. Occupation as farmer and next of kin as wife, Mrs Wiripini Waiwera Kaurati, Ohau, Manawatu Line. The 4th contingent appears to have arrived about 1917, allowing the establishment of the New Zealand Maori Pioneer Battalion. This was a source of satisfaction to Maori members, who had initially been a seperate Maori contingent, but had been then integrated into a mixed Pioneer Battalion (see Pugsley 'Te Hokowhitu a Tu')
