Description

Material consists of meeting minutes, correspondence, reports and research notes on various programmes and events. Also includes material from display boards for a 1980s exhibition about small presses and New Zealand publishing history. The boards had captions, photographs, photocopies, original items, mostly stuck on with cellotape. Includes material on Caxton Press, Pilgrim Press, Pelorus Press, Robert Lowry, Taylor's Mistake Press, Wa-te-ata Press, Aspect Press and Pumpkin Press. Only one board remains in its original state. Includes an audio cassette relating to the Words on Wheels programme.

The New Zealand Book Council was established in 1972 and is an independent, non-profit, national organization. Through a wide variety of activities and programmes, the New Zealand Book Council seeks to both promote and support New Zealand literature as well as encourage reading and an appreciation for literature in the general community. Major programmes run by the New Zealand Book Council include: Writers in Schools, Meet the Author, Words on Wheels and International Writer Exchange.
