Description: Album of photographs (mainly landscapes) taken by John Tenison Salmon between 1930 and 1941. The album is divided into sections (not in chronological order), many relating to camping holidays with an unidentified companion. Areas covered included a Christmas holiday trip in 1937 to the East Coast and thermal regions around Tikitere and Waimangu, the Morere nikau forest, Mount Maunganui beach, Hongi's track, the buried village at Te Wairoa, and Rotorua. A North Auckland trip in December 1938 included camping as far north as Paihia, Russell and Waitangi, the Waitangi Falls, the Waipoua Kauri Forest and Trounson's Kauri Park, also Auckland, the Kaingaroa Plains and Waiouru Valley. Areas of erosion were noted, and mangrove swamps. An Anniversary Day trip (22-23 January 1939) took Salmon to the Putangirua Pinnacles in the Wairarapa; and in September 1941 he went to the Hawke's Bay area. In 1945 he went on a North Island Expedition working on malaria control, with ?Bissett, and William John Phillipps. February 20-27 1939 was a trip across the Napier-Taupo Road, and included a number of images of the silt and desolation caused by a great flood in the Esk Valley in 1938. In 1936 Salmon went on a geological trip to the Rotorua area, and at Orakei Korako he was particularly interested in "sinter formations" (thermal deposits of silica, of which the Pink and White Terraces were examples). Description: Album of landscapes taken by various photographers including Wheeler & Sons and the Burton Brothers, circa 1870s and 1880s. All the views are of New Zealand except the last sequence (p 33-37) showing Rio de Janeiro. Of particular interest are views of a wool wagon drawn by oxen, crossing a ford; a series showing an unidentified curved viaduct under construction (p 28-32); and a number showing a farm run by J F L Jetter at Te Puke when the land was partially cleared, with cattle grazing in paddocks, and Mr Jetter standing by a horse in a paddock in front of his home. Many of the images show uncleared land, with a deep ravine filled with native bush and tree ferns, and a stream running through (p 24-27). Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Description: Album of photographs taken circa 1920, by an unidentified photographer. None of the images have inscriptions; only a few places have been identified. Identifiable buildings and locations have been listed above. Many of the scenes are of a two-storey English cottage in the Arts & Crafts style, showing exterior and interior views. Description: The first half of the album consists of a collection of postcards from many parts of the world, including New Zealand; many are coloured. One tourist postcard taken by George Valentine is labelled `Patarangukai, Maori chief'; others show groups of Maori; and another taken by Muir and Moodie is of a "House boat, Wanganui River". The latter part of the album consists of photographs of the Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Islands, Whangarei and Kawau, taken on a Christmas cruise, 1913-1914. Description: Photograph album of prints, showing images of scenes around New Zealand, taken by Frank Arnold Coxhead from circa 1864 to circa 1890s. Compiler of album unidentified. Most prints have captions. - Includes images of scenes around Milford Sound, Queenstown-Lakes District and George Sound, which include images of lakes, ships, people, and buildings. - Also includes images of Christchurch, including the Christchurch Cathedral, the Victoria Bridge (with a caption inscribed in pencil saying 'Law Courts'), the Avon River, the Christchurch Botanical Gardens, Sumner and Shag Rock. - Also includes images of Auckland including Albert Park, North Shore, Auckland Hospital and a waterfall at Lucas Creek. - Also includes a series of images taken from what is described as the 'Hokitika Road' (Arthur's Pass) including the Otira Gorge, the Devil's Punchbowl, Mount Rolleston and Mount Philistine. - Also includes images of Dunedin including the Octagon (which includes images of horses and carts, buildings and roads), North East Valley, Leith Valley, Port Chalmers, and Dunedin Botanic Garden. - Also includes an image of a group of Maori standing outside Tamatekapua wharenui (meeting house) at Ohinemutu, and an image of (mainly Maori) people at Ateamuri [sic], Waikato.
