Description: Aerial photograph, produced by NZ Aerial Mapping Ltd., Ref. No. A/S 2218, Flown 27.3.69, of L.W. Tonkin's farm in the Matakohe area, NE of Kaipara Harbour, used as a base map to which the farm and paddock boundaries have been outlined in red and detailed in a key. Hand-written notes in the margin give details of neighbouring houses with name references. Features include a trig point with height in feet, cabbage trees (location of), height in feet (of a hill), silo, to Matakohe, Ruatuna. A.P.B.W. believed to be the cartographer. Hand-written notes included in the margins are as follows: "Mainly hill country (sold 1947 to Crown for rehab) leading to 'The Swamp' on Ruawai Flats." "Matakohe Beet Farms, Ltd. Description: Map of Otaki, with revisions made in white correcting fluid. The area is from the sea to the racecourse including the Otaki River and the golf links, Otaki Beach, Rangiuru and Otaki Town settlements. Shows the sites of the King George V Memorial Health Camp, several areas of Church Mission Grant land, the Catholic Church Mission Station, Maori Church, pa, memorial to Te Rauparaha, schools, the hospital and sanitorium reserves and a mill. Includes dates when the Catholic Mission Station was opened and dates when the church, presbytery and school were built. Streets and streams are named and the old course of the Otaki River is marked as is the borough boundary and built up areas. A reference key shows numbered sites of interest. Description: Charles Fleming's work crossed scientific disciplines and this large collection reflects his widespread activities as a geologist, palaeontologist, ornithologist, biographer, science historian and environmentalist. It includes diaries, notebooks, correspondence, research notes, family papers and subject files. Fleming published over five hundred journal articles in his career as a scientist and the collection includes drafts of unpublished material. The 90-353 accession consists of mainly financial papers and correspondence with banks and other financial firms relating to the Fleming family trust and income. Also includes Christmas cards, Wellington Gramophone Circle programmes, and the wills of George Herbert and Elizabeth Fleming. Description: Based on a published cadastral map with parishes of the Bay of Islands, hand-drawings show constructed roads which require maintenance or widening to avoid undue delays in delivery of goods when sea conditions are rough. Routes are marked as A to C - Okaihau to Waimate; A to D - Okaihau to Kerkeri; A to E - Okaihau to Haruru Falls; A to F - Okaihau to Kawakawa. Okaihau, Russell and Kawakawa are underlined in red and Ohaeawai, Waimate, Black Bridge and Opua are handwritten in red ink. An accompanying letter requests that this work be considered, includes estimates, and gives information about the colour coding of the roads. No reference key is given. Title supplied by cataloguer.
