Description: A scene of Blind Bay, now Tasman Bay, in 1875. Mount Crusader (now known as the Arthur Range) is seen in the distance, with the Motueka River in the foreground. The plants tī kouka (Cordyline australis, cabbage tree), harakeke (Phormium tenax, native flax) and toetoe (Arundo conspicua) are highlighted subjects. A chromolithographed copy of the work became plate number 10 of the publication 'New Zealand scenery: chromo-lithographed after original water-colour drawings by John Gully; with descriptive letterpress by Julius Von Haast (London: Marcus Ward & Co., 1877). Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') travel in New Zealand in 1959. This sheet of slides was taken earlier than those on some of the preceding sheets (information from his diary). The first two slides show hops and the Hop research Station at Riwaka. Four unidentified people listed as the "Ruby Bay Group" are shown at a picnic site; view over Tasman Bay towards Nelson; two men standing on the wharf at Port Motueka; six slides showing aspects of the apple industry in the Tasman area with a long view of an orchard, close views of apple-laden trees, a packing shed, and apple boxes with labels "New Zealand apples". These are followed by a trip from Nelson to Takaka over the Takaka Hill, the valley of the Pupu Springs, then several showing the Golden Bay Cement works, and the Abel Tasman memorial at Tarakohe. Slides on this sheet are numbered 481-504 with no gaps. Arrangement: None of this sheet of slides were taken as part of Williams' representative collection on New Zealand for various lectures which he gave when he returned to England.
