Description: The minute book covers period February 1952 to July 1957. It contains a copy of the constitution of the Women's Auxiliary and a report on the discussions that led to the decision to disband it. The Inter-Church Council on Public Affairs was set up in 1941 as a result of wartime needs. Since World War II immigrant welfare, prison reform, film censorship and care of the aged have become major concerns for the Council. The Women's Auxiliary of the Inter-Church Council on Public Affairs was set up in 1952 because of a feeling that women's points of view were not receiving sufficient attention in the Council. It was wound up in 1957 due to a lack of support from some of the member churches and a feeling in the parent body that it was undesirable to have a separate women's grouping. Description: Katherine Knight and her son Paul Knight talk about international voluntary work camps in New Zealand. Paul Knight recalls activities of Young Friends in Auckland 1957, working with young Maori people on projects. Explains idea was to give experience in working with other groups in order to overcome prejudices, first task being to find suitable projects. Mentions Maori Women's Welfare League. Lists some of the projects: renovations to Old People's Home; wood chopping at Henderson, Anglican Orphanage at Takapuna, Rawene and Murapara Maori Boys Training Farm. Explains that UNESCO was the umbrella organisation to whom an annual report was sent. Refers to Colombo Plan students who also helped. Recalls his experience of rescuing Wehi Morunga from an overturned tractor. Talks about his experience in Japan and South East Asia promoting international voluntary work camps in these countries and explains the significance to his future which is teaching Japanese language at Massey.
