Mai i te tau 1881 i whakaritea he ture, me utu ngā Hainīhi katoa ka tomo mai ki Aotearoa i tētahi tāke motuhake £10, nō te tau 1896 ka whakapikia ki te £100. Tā tēnei tiwhikete he āta tuhi kua utua e te pāpā o Kwok Sai To, e 6 ōna tau, taua moni i te Hūrae 1922, kia pai ai te piri mai o tana tamāhine kia noho tahi me ia i Aotearoa.

Some people came for opportunities. From 1881, Chinese entering New Zealand had to pay a poll tax of £10, increased to £100 in 1896. This document shows that in July 1922, the father of Kwok Sai To (6 years old) paid the fee so that she could join him in Aotearoa New Zealand.
