Mrs Wikaira was born in Christchurch. Outlines family background - father, Ernest Gerald Guildford, a farmer - paternal grandfather came from Wiltshire, England and settled in Papanui, Christchurch - maternal grandfather, William Thomson, fought in Maori wars, was left in charge of Rewi Maniapoto.
Recalls a childhood of moving from place to place, living with relatives; schooling at Queen Victoria Maori Girls' School, Auckland and Epsom Grammar (Auckland) and Auckland Business College where she was top student. Mentions racial discrimination when seeking employment. Talks about: work experience in various positions; marriage to David Wikaira, a farmer, ca 1933; hard work on the farm which included ploughing with horses; sharemilking during Depression; social life and World War II and her efforts. Describes first contact with Womens Division Federated Farmers with reference to Mrs Ani Disher. Mentions the Parlane family, Dick Earwaker (head of Otorohanga District Council) and Jean Hughes, all living in Mountain Road District. Recalls being Secretary of Pokuru Branch WDDF and the duties involved. Discusses involvement with Maori Women's Welfare League which was established 1951 - was foundation member of branch at Marae in Pokuru area. Talks about assertiveness and how it is seen by other women. Mentions the WDFF Housekeeping Scheme which started as Bush Nursing Scheme. Discusses relationship between Women's Division Federated Farmers and Country Women's Institute.
